Just purchased TypeMetal in order to run two WordPress sites, one self-hosted, the other on wordpress.com. The sites download and the posts show up in the sidebar but initially not in the main window until I select clearview and then deselect it. However, in the WordPress hosted site, if I select another post in the sidebar it shows the original post’s heading and text but the selected posts category. This happens in whichever post I select. In the self-hosted site I accidentally deleted an image from one post in the edit window so I did not publish that but even after fully synching again the image still does’t show in TypeMetal.

The other problem is that whenever I try to do a search and replace the app hangs and I have to force quit.

Not bad for an hour’s use. I thought I’d get your response before posting a negative review and trying to get my money back.

    Hi John,

I’m very sorry you’ve run into trouble! I just released a 2.0.4 update containing a number of important bug fixes. Are you using this latest version?

The trouble you describe with having to toggle Clear View to see your posts’ content sounds like a problem with downloading or attaching to the post templates for your site’s theme. Can you tell me what WordPress theme you’re using, or direct me to your site so I can look at an example page? If the problem has persisted, it might just be necessary to adjust TypeMetal’s default attachment point settings to get it to work properly with your theme.

The search-and-replace hang doesn’t sound like anything I’ve seen before. Are you encountering it when editing a WordPress post, or when working with a standalone HTML file? Does TypeMetal hang when you click “Replace” or only on [Replace] “All”? I’ve attempted to reproduce what you describe but haven’t found a way to get it to happen yet, so any further info you can provide would be much appreciated!

Regarding the image deletion: Have you tried editing the post in WordPress (via the WordPress web interface)? Making a change on the server should cause the post to show as edited on the server. The next time TypeMetal syncs, it will show the post as edited in both places. To resolve the conflict, tell TypeMetal to discard the local version of the post. It will then keep the version downloaded from the server instead. (Next time, if you catch the unintended deletion before you save your edits, you should be able to simply Undo the edit (Cmd+Z).)

Again, I’m very sorry you have not had the level experience I aim to provide. I hope to be able to get things working well for you shortly!

    Regards,
    Troy

OK the image is back after editing in WordPress. On the self-hosted site http://www.oxtedonline.com there are only two posts and a default static page but within TypeMetal only the latest post shows the content even though all three posts are shown in the sidebar. Selecting one of the posts from the sidebar I have to toggle clear view but still only see the latest post although the category does change. Same situation with the other blog. I have tried several themes all with the same result. </p>
<p>The search & replace is the least of my worries as if I cannot get this working even half way properly then there is no point continuing with it.</p>

Thank you, John. This sounds like it’s almost certainly a solvable “attachment point” problem. I’ll look at the site and theme you’re using, and will get back to you soon, hopefully with a solution.

    Hi John,

The “Omega” theme you’re using does indeed require custom attachment point settings, as its markup differs a bit from some of the other themes I’ve encountered. Specifically, opening “Blogging” -> “Attachment Point Settings…”, it’s necessary to set the “Date” and “Categories” settings as pictured:

Attachment Point Settings for Omega theme

This should solve at least part of the problem. Testing using WordPress 4.0 and version 1.0.5 of the Omega theme with the above settings, I seem to be able to view and edit posts. Regardless of Attachment Point Settings, however, you should always be able to see and edit your posts’ content in “Clear View” mode.

Do problems seeing or editing your post content persist after making the above settings? Do you see the titles of all of your posts as expected in the left-hand sidebar?

    Thanks!

Slightly better in that as long as I switch to clear view and keep it switched on I can see the posts that I select. If I then switch clear view off I am stuck with the post I was seeing when I switched it off. Apart that is from the category which shows correctly. </p>
<p>Sorry but I really cannot waste any more time on this. It is fairly obvious that the WordPress side of this app is nowhere near ready. Thanks for your attempts to get it working.</p>

I’m sorry I was not able to get things working to your satisfaction. Making post display and editing work with a wide variety of WordPress themes is probably the biggest challenge of building a WYSIWYG WordPress app, and is an aspect of TypeMetal that I’m particularly focused on improving. I’m confident this can be fixed in the near future and your experience with other aspects of the app will be better, but I understand and appreciate that your time is valuable.

If you decide to give TypeMetal another chance, I believe you’ll have much better success operating in Clear View mode for now. It sounds like TypeMetal has your post content, and the present problem is with getting it to display using your site’s theme.

I’m grateful for your feedback on what hasn’t worked, and I greatly appreciate your offering me the opportunity to try to help get you up and running.

    Regards & Thanks,
    Troy
