Keyboard Shortcuts

Tagboat is designed to be fully keyboard-navigable. Learning the shortcuts that are summarized below, and pointed out throughout this Help guide, will help you breeze through navigating and tagging your files with ease and agility.

You needn’t feel obliged to memorize these in one sitting. The important thing is to be aware of the kinds of handy shortcuts that are available. You can summon this cheat sheet anytime, by choosing Tagboat Help from the Help menu and clicking “Keyboard Shortcuts”.

The shortcuts listed below are for the original English keyboard localization. If you are using Tagboat in another language, please refer to Tagboat’s menus to discover the corresponding keyboard shortcuts, until this help page can be localized.

Modifier Key Notation

Key labeling varies. The modifier key symbols in these tables have the following equivalents:

In the “Managed Folders” Window

return Enter the selected folder to start tagging its files
⇧ return Edit settings for the selected folder
⌘O Add a folder
delete Remove the selected folder from the Managed Folders list (does not delete the folder)
⇧F Reveal the selected folder in a Finder window
⇧⌘R Reindex the selected folder
⌘R Refresh the view
⇧⌘T Show/hide the Tags window
In the “Tagging Files” View
Keystroke Command
⌃a - ⌃z
⌃A - ⌃Z
⌃0 - ⌃9
Instantly toggle tags by the hotkeys you’ve assigned them.
If a file already has the tag, this removes it.
If a file doesn’t have the tag yet, this adds the tag, as well as any ancestor tags it inherits.
Move up a line
Move down a line
return Start tagging the selected file(s)
Use hotkeys and typing completion to choose the tags you want, and optionally define new tags.
esc Exit tagging
⌘1 - ⌘4 Change file list filter (All / Recently Tagged / To Review / No Tag)
⌘O Open the selected file(s) in appropriate app(s)
⇧⌘R Reveal the selected file(s) in a Finder window
⇧⌘P Show/hide the QuickLook preview of the selected file’s content
