Intentional Building with AI and AppKit
You’re carrying a Mac app codebase forward, with bugs to fix and features to ship.
AI could massively accelerate your development. But if you hand it the wheel, you could lose track of how your own app works.
In this hands-on session, you’ll use an AI agent to make a real improvement to an AppKit+SwiftUI codebase while you stay in charge of the design.
When AI drives
- It picks the architecture for you
- Changes pile up as patches nobody designed
- You lose awareness of where things live
When you drive
- You set the design, and AI fills it in
- Changes follow the patterns your app already uses
- You understand and can build on the end result
You’ll leave this workshop with:
1
Rules for deciding what you design by hand and what you hand off to AI.
2
A review checklist that catches AI code that works but won’t last.
3
A real change you made during the session, still built your way.

Your instructor
I spent 16 years on Apple’s AppKit team, helping build macOS developer functionality that underpins apps from Safari to Keynote, and designing and presenting 12 WWDC talks along the way. I’ve built solid indie Mac apps that have survived years of OS changes, and I’ve helped integrate AI dev workflows into shipping of a major app — building experience with Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Grok Build, GrokBot, and CodeRabbit. I’ll show you how to maintain control over your code base while bringing your own apps into the future, better than ever.
